Blog 2: Presidential Suite

After a pleasant night at Van and Ha's hotel, we woke up, played a bit of rummy, and, after MUCH deliberation, decided to eat at a Vietnamese noodle shop. We pulled up into what appeared to be, from the sign to the ghetto location, a typical Vietnamese joint. Since we arrived just minutes after the restaurant opened, the restaurant was pretty deserted, with the exception of the random white guy in the corner, and we were seated and catered to almost immediately. Though it looked like any other Vietnamese place you'd find off of Jupiter and Walnut, the interior was much more Americanized, with new contemporary paintings on sale and hanging from the walls and the menu being almost completely in English.
When it came time to order, Ha got the Hu Tieu, Van got the Pho, and I got the Pad Thai! First came out Van and Ha's dishes and I was surprised about how good they were. The Hu Tieu was very clean tasting and the Pho was surprisingly strong and fragrant (maybe even better than Pho Bang!). After some agonizing minutes of  anticipation and stomach growling a mound of steaming Pad Thai was set right before my eyes.

Immediately after the Pad Thai had arrived I began scarfing it down! It wasn't that most "Thai" Pad Thai i've ever eaten before but it was delicious! Van, Ha, and I picked at each others foods as well and once the dust had settled, our plates were cleared and our tummies were stuffed. After leaving the restaurant came the iconic moment of them dropping me off to college. It wasn't very sad or anything, i think we were all so excited that I'd be going to UT.

When I got to my room, the first thing I did was hook up my TV and 360. This process took about and hour and a half and it actually took me longer to feng shui the two the right way than it did for me to actually hook up the two together hahaha. Afterwards, I changed up a few arrangements and began familiarizing myself with the room. The next task big task was filling in the gigantic bulletin board that covered that wall by my bed. I headed over to the CVS on the drag to develop photos and add some life to the room! Here's a bare wall before (I actually just took a picture of Williams wall which is still bare to this day! xD)

So beige...So biscuitty
And here's the after!

Rat la nice, Rat la organized!!
The rest of the day I just chilled, watched TV, and hung out with William. He ended up being busy during lunch so I just ate at city limits by my lonesome. It sucked seeing everyone in their little groups and me not knowing anyone here yet. After grabbing my lunch I sat in a little secluded spot by the TVs and scarfed my lunch so I could get out of there! Though everyone sees me as being the really social and outgoing one i've found myself to be verrrrry shy and reserved. If other people initiate the conversation I can carry it along easily but its starting the conversation the really gets me. Who knows, hopefully I'll get better at this once I get used to the place. I honestly dont know how you do this Mai lol! I jest, I jest.

Later that night, Paulina and I decided to meet up and she became my official tour guide of campus! After doing some walking and talking we decided to cool off with some boba tea at Coco's cafe.

When it's nighttime and its still sweltering hot, this stuff is like mothers milk! lol
Since Coco's Cafe was packed and the booming music was slowing deafening Paulina and I, we decided to do some more venturing of campus. She showed the Student Activity Center where they had some good fast food places and lots of activity rooms for the students. Next, we went to the new biology building known as the Norman Hackerman Building and just sat and talked for a while. Though we couldnt go inside the building, it was gorgeous to look at at night. Many of the UT buildings have the same exact architecture, from the color of the walls to the burnt orange roof panels. This building however was very modern and stuck out like a sore thumb from the rest of the buildings!

The School of the Future!!

By the time we finished chatting and Paulina had to go home it was almost 11pm! It was so weird being out and about at that time but I loved the freedom and really got the taste of college I was looking for. I then headed back to my room and was so exhausted I conked out for the rest of the night! Well thats all folks. I have an 8 am tomorrow and my roommates already asleep. xD

Until then, Hasta Pasta!
